Basketball Tournament Inaugural Speech

Throughout your youth, you will learn many lessons about life.  These lessons are very important because they create the foundation for the type of Men and Women you will become.  In today’s tournament we are not just competing for a trophy, we are learning valuable life lessons.

You will step out onto the court today with the goal of becoming champions.  In order to do so you will follow the rules and the decisions made by the referees.  And in the end, the team with the best players and strategies will rise to the top.  There will be one winner.

But, just like life, it’s not who wins, it’s how the game is played and what you learned.  Did you play the game the best you could? Did you respect your teammates and opponents? Did you credit the successes of those who earned it?  Win or lose, did you keep a positive spirit and shake your competitors hand and congratulate them for their efforts?  These are qualities that earn you respect on the court and in the real world.  It’s the difference between a good player a great player. A good person and a respected person

Unlike basketball, in life there is not just one winner.  We can all rise to the top in anything we do.  So work hard, respect others, give credit and stay positive at all times.

Today’s games will eventually end, but what you learn on the court will shape your path for the future.  So play the game of life well and inspire others to follow your lead.

Thank you all and good luck today.
